Improve Your Volleys
The last thing you want when hitting volleys is to be really tight in your hand and wrist. Tightness takes away the all-important “feel” for the volleys. Having a “relaxed” grip is ideal, as it will help you absorb and redirect the power of the passing shot.
When you volley with a continental grip and a relaxed hand, the grip has a tendency to slip a little towards an Eastern grip, especially if you hit slightly off-center. So after the volley come back to the ready position and use your non-dominant hand to “click” the grip back from Eastern to Continetal.
Then there is the “Stick” part of the volley. This is all about the energy to the ball. Think of the energy exploding at contact, rather than a long slow rumble like thunder in the distance where the energy just keeps going and going. There is no need to be imparting energy after contact has been made.
That’s why we have “Click It & Stick It. Watch the video below to learn more.
