2016 US Open Quarter Final

Kei Nishikori def. Andy Murray 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.

It was September 7, 2016. It was mid afternoon, and I was jazzed to be sitting down low on Arthur Ashe to watch Andy Murray battle Kei Nishikori in the US Open quarter finals. Number two in the world versus number seven. My focus was going to be on the bruising baseline exchanges - or so I thought.

This match ultimately became a match that changed the way I coach, and changed the way I evaluate our sport. This was the match that refocused my attention on how a point ends in the first four shots.

I sat in the second row, very close to the middle behind the umpire. Brad Gilbert sat right across the aisle, commentating for ESPN. Check out the pic below I took at the start of the match. Can't complain about the seats!
