The problem for Jeff in this match is that he did not really go after his 1st serve.

He did not use it as a weapon to explicitly force return errors and set up Serve +1 forehands to follow to the net. Jeff's thinking before the match was to make a lot of first serves to limit exposure to 2nd serves. The theory isn't bad, but Francisco is the wrong opponent to employ that strategy against.
