The 2-1 Pattern
The baseline is a tough place to forge an advantage. One of the best patterns of play from the back of the court is the “2-1 Pattern”. This three-shot combo is broken down as follows:
Shot 1 = Play deep to your opponent’s backhand to Position C to push them back. Get them on defense so they have to come back cross court.
Shot 2 = Your deep ball is returned shorter. Step in a couple of steps and angle wide to the backhand to Position D.
Shot 3 = Play to the vacant Deuce Court to Position A.
