Dirtballer.
You will have your hands on it Mon, October 1.
You know how sometimes you get a little ahead of yourself. 🙋🏻♂️
Well, that is definitely me with the launch of Dirtballer. The initial theory was to release it to the world during Roland Garros 2018.
But then I thought…
Wouldn’t it be better to include all of the up-to-date analytics from Roland Garros 2018 in the product? Ahhh… yes. 😀
So that brings us to today’s email.
Let’s just say I have a mountain ⛰ of data to share with you when Dirtballer launches October 1, 2018! As with all of the other Brain Game Tennis products over the past couple of years, it will change the way you look at the sport – with the #1 goal of making the practice court more productive!
Dirtballer will be exactly. the. same. 🎯
DIRTBALLER – A LITTLE TEASE
I know you want a little taste of what’s to come with Dirtballer. So wrap your head around this…
2018 Roland Garros Semi Final
- Rafael Nadal def. Juan Martin Del Potro 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 (I was at the match).
The overarching impression of clay court tennis is much longer points. More grinding. More extended rallies. More side to side. More point development. Especially with Nadal – the King of Clay.
BUT…
When you look at the analytics for this match (and manyyyy others), they don’t match that paradigm at all.
Nadal d Del Potro: Average time per point ball in play.
Set 1 6-4 = Average point duration 9.5 seconds.
Set 2 6-1 = Average point duration 8.7 seconds
Set 3 6-2 = Average point duration 8.4 seconds
Total Match Time = 2h 14m
Total Time Ball In Play = 21m 13s.
Match: Average Point Duration = 8.8 seconds
Match lasted 134 minutes. Ball in play 21 minutes… or just 16% of the time.
Here’s the breakdown of rally length
Rally Length
0-4 Shots = 104 (57%)
5-8 Shots = 52 (28%)
9+ Shots = 28 (15%)
The 0-4 rally length was by FAR the most abundant rally length in the semi-final. The first 4 steals the show – even on clay!!!!
Nadal and Del Potro also played at Wimbledon just a couple of weeks ago. Feast your eyes on these rally lengths.
The longest rally for their Roland Garros match was 19 shots.
Wimbledon 2018 similar rally lengths…
- Set 1, 1-1, 15-15 = 23 shots.
- Set 1, 4-3, 15-40 = 17 shots.
- Set 1 5-5, 15-15 = 17 shots.
- Set 1, 5-5, 30-15 = 20 shots.
- Set 2, 1-1, 0-0 = 15 shots.
- Set 2, 2-2, 30-15 = 21 shots.
- Set 2, 3-3, 15-0 = 15 shots.
- Set 4, 1-1, 0-15 = 17 shots.
- Set 5, 1-1, 30-30 = 23 shots.
- Set 5, 2-2, 30-40 = 16 shots.
I can hear you asking… was the average rally length shorter at their Roland Garros match than Wimbledon? You will get that answer when Dirtballer is released October 1, 2018. ✅
Dirtballer is going to wreck havoc on clay court “systems”, “methods” and paradigms. The reality of clay court tennis is just a few weeks away.
Have an amazing weekend! ✌
